I found my Puna ride..
#1
Yeppers, I found the, what I think, perfect Puna ride. Now my only worry is that John Rabbi, in search of a new ride, may out bid me for it.

Ok maybe not this exact truck, but this is along the lines of what I'm thinking. Oh yeah, I'm still bringing one of the Land Cruisers but they only get 12-15 mpg.

OK.. so hers's my question, Who's gonna wave at me when I'm coming down the road?

When i pull out in front of you from HA and it takes me 2 miles to get up to speed (cuz I got some bad peanut oil at walmart) are you going to be flashing your lights and tailgaiting me?

Blessings,
dave

That's exactly what I would look for, other than the rust and bad seats and located in Fort Lauderdale and $3k for a 23 year-old truck!

Oh cmon Wayne.. You don't like those Fred Flinstone brakes? Yaba daba dooo...

Yeah, I thought 3k was a bit pricey for something with see-thru-floors. But I do like the thought of a small diesel 4 cyl engine for the BI. Although diesel is $3.39 here, no telling how high it is there.

David, With your PV array, why use veggie oil? You guys should get in line for the Phoenix truck (plus Sophie'd look grand in it!) and theres space for your visitors to ride! (OK, there is the price thing, but with all of the tax credits & such....)

Hi Carey,

I think you've confused me with David M. The only PV I have is small system that runs my gate.

But wouldn't that be cool if you could designate a solar syatem (set up on you garage) to convert the days solar charge into your car at night. I'm sure it's very possible to do it right now. It may not be cost efficient, at present, but it probabley is/should be, the future.

He he.. Yeah, Hello boss this is dave I won't be in to work today. yeah well you know it was cloudy here in HA, again, yestday.

Blessings,
dave

I wonder how feasable it would be to buy a late model high milage tachoma and order and install a Japanese hillux diesel in it?

I managed to make it to Fresno & back without paying over $3.27. Diesel prices were about 30 cents higher than gasoline.

This truck seems to be modified to use SVO (straight Vegetable Oil), so you just need to get friendly with a restaurateur, not buy diesel.

There was a "Solar Decathlon" last month, where requirements were to run the entire house on Solar energy, with enough left over to charge an electric car, so it should be quite possible to use PV for your driving.

Hey oink, This is exactly why I was looking at that junk truck. I was also thinking of putting a toyota diesel in my 85 Land Cruiser, but it may be cost prohibitive (sp).

Here's a link to a Tacoma with a diesel engine, that I was watching on Ebay. It was at $7,200 when the seller ended it early (way more than I want to spend on an 89).

I would love to have a small Toyota Truck with a 4cyl. diesel. I think that would be a good set up anywhere but certainly for the BI.

Dave,I did confuse the two of you, you look like twins on the web! Unfortunately, the boss excuse might not work...The Phoenix has rejenerative braking, so if you brake, esp going downhill from HA to work, you are recharging the batteries....boss might just tell you to push it to a down hill start....

Hey Carey,

No problem about the confusion.. i received a call from another Puna webber, last week, who thought I was David M. He was looking for a referral on someone named Rob Tucker and his building systems.

Of course being me, I told him the house was great until one day it just fell down.

Naw.. I told him who I was (stop freakin out Rob)

But seriously, isn't it cool that electric and hybrid cars are starting to become competitive (somewhat).

I think everytime the oil countries show their a$$es and run the oil price up it just helps to smart-up the public and sell a few hybrids.
