"The seven protestors who were arrested early Friday morning were taken into custody at around 2:00 a.m., but not until they refused to accept citations instead, law enforcement officials said. "

And why did they have to do that on La Ho'i ho'i Ea day?
Because that was part of the message?
Or because they don't know what that is?

The County Council does, it is considering acknowledging the 31st of July as a Holiday: http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news...ay-holiday.

Why does it matter what day it is? If you break the law there are consequences!

Choosing this day is throwing more oil into the fire. It could have been done yesterday or next week, doing it today was insensitive, jmho.

There has already been an "every rock is sacred" discussion.
The "every day is sacred" is more of the same. I'm sure whatever day protestors were arrested will have some kind of significance in Hawaiian history. It's a long history with many participants and events.

They should have had a convoy of construction folks following right behind, after the arrests and have police block the lower entrance to the Summit Road, right at Saddle intersection. Time to get this project going. There is no need to "announce" when construction is to resume. All that does is allow the protestors to get a larger group up there.

Great! lets go all in. dump all the oil in the fire and burn you rats out of your holes. Summer is over the kids are back to school - time for the bums to go back to work!

I'm thinking there should have been some more warnings issued to the protectors. I mean, how do we know they are aware of the unclear rules and regulations in place on MK. Seems unfair and heavyhanded.
