Shoulda stayed home
#1
Went to the mainland for a week to visit family and on the way out, our flight (last leg of the trip) was cancelled due to rain. Of course we have to pay for our own hotel for the night. While waiting on the shuttle for the hotel, there was a bomb scare which stopped all traffic for two hours. So anyway, we get on our way the next day with no problems.
On the way back, it rained 1" in San Diego, so they cancelled all flights and once again we are stranded. Last time it rained that much was 15 years ago. Anyway after a night, we finally get on the plane only to find out the wind was blowing the wrong way and so we get another delay. At least this time, we did get to Kona, but late.
So my question is to any frequent fliers, are airlines getting more touchy about weather (since they now don't have pay for hotels or meals when it's weather)?
After all the delays, we were out almost $1000.....[V]

It was sure good to get back home!

I haven't noticed any increase in weather delays and in fact have had some very interesting landings due to high winds (mostly at KOA and SFO). Nothing like coming in for a landing with the nose pointing 20 degrees away from the runway and lurching up and down in the cross wind. You start to gain a LOT of respect for the pilots after a few of these. Came into ITO once in pouring rain with lightning bzorking all around us.

With all the wild weather in the Pacific, finding a flight path without turbulence is probably difficult in this hurrican season. This happened yesterday:

The chances of getting some turbulent flights are going to be high for awhile. Oh, the topic was about having to go back to the mainland. So sorry.

Agree whole heartedly Eight Fingers, wish service was like it was when Patterson ran it years ago. Funny how being employee run they don't give a hooty hoot.

Ya, I miss the CAB that used to deal with these issues. They got rid of that. You got free market cheap air fares- so shut up.
