We found a very sweet, docile dog wandering on Paradise Ala Kai this morning. Neighbors say she has been wandering here for 2 weeks. Emancipated but friendly. We've given her food and water. She looks to be Australian shepherd or similar. Gray with white paws and muzzle. I would keep her if I didn't have other dogs! I posted on Aloha Ilio FB page, too, with pics. She is a cuddler, no growling, etc. hopefully someone out there either knows her or wants to adopt. The Humane Society won't even see if she's chipped without surrendering her. Rainbow rescue is full up, too. C'mon punaweb, let's find this sweetie a home!

I would recommend putting up a (physical) "found" notice on the Humane society bulletin board, just inside the office to your right. Also for some strange reason folks here prefer to list found and lost dogs on craigslist before listing with the humane society.
Your local vet can check the micro chip for you for a nominal charge if any. Good luck!

Thanks, Punatic! My neighbor did take her to vet in HPP and no chip. We haven't gone to Humane Society yet, but we're going to put a FOUND flyer up as you recommended. I'll put 'em around HPP, too. No luck on Craigslist. Fingers crossed we find her owners or forever home.

One of the dogs I posted recently as loose dogs in HPP reappeared at the end of 16 right by the HUI, unfortunately it reappeared as a dead dog that clearly had been hit by a car Saturday night. I really wish I had been able to catch him when I saw him the first time.

Oh so sad! So often we don't have the time to stop to help. I was lucky my friends and I had time today. So sad to see these wonderful dogs out there alone!

GOOD NEWS! The dog was taken to a neighbor's workplace, where 3 different people fell in love with her. It was then decided that one woman, whose own dog had passed away a year ago and was ready to adopt, would take her home. She lives in Hilo on acre property that is fully fenced. She is aware that if the family who lost her shows up, it is a foster only. YAY!!!

The real hero is my neighbor, who took the dog in and called everyone she knows and of course the wonderful woman who is taking this sweet dog into her life.
I was glad to find so many local Facebook groups where I found support, sharing of pics to find her family, and lots of big-hearted people who already were full up with foster dogs.
