How many inches of rainfall?

When we moved here we were told that the average amount of rain in this part of HPP (near 5th/Makuu) was 80" of rain a year; BUT...I think we've gotten a lot more than that this year! ; anyone know how much?

It's been more like 80 inches just for December (just a guess). I live near 5th and Makuu also. Never seen it rain this heavy over such a long period of time. What happened to that dry winter El Nino was suppose to bring?

Use the interactive map available at http://rainfall.geography.hawaii.edu/ . Though it is a bit bandwidth intensive, it is the definitive source for rainfall data in Hawaii. If you set the base map to one which includes local features and roadways, you can easily zoom in on your location, click once, and have a calculation returned which has been shown to be accurate.

You might check the rainfall for 2011. WE moved here in September that year, and it was very rainy and stormy.

Since January 1st Kurtistown has had over 175 inches of rain. That's about 40 inches above normal.

A friend with a good weather station in the lower part of Hawaiian Beaches measured 140" in September, October and November. No total yet for December.

Mosquitoes need stagnant water, so lots of rain is good.
