I've lived in three of those "cities" and near Pahoa, too. Never really had a problem with crime in any of them.
Now I live in HA, still no problems.

Eden Roc has a high rating for violent crime. Almost exclusively it's people assaulting or murdering other people they live with. Don't live with crazy violent people.

I understand that, according to the HCPD, Hawaiian Acres has a lower per-capita crime rate than HPP. We just have a bad reputation.

The knock on "Areavibes" is that they offer a vague methodology about how their stats are compiled, and they do not provide enough information for anyone to fact check them. They have also been criticized for comparing crime data captured in less populated areas to high and very high density areas and reporting upon all without any weight for the population's size variance. It seems they give smaller populations outsized results without weighting.

My favorite: Honomu with a population of a little more than 500 people is small, but dangerous.

I sometimes work in Honomu, I'll take that kind of "danger" all day long.
