Best Bacon Cheeseburger
#1
My wife wanted to go out to a restaurant and have a "quality" burger. And I have no idea if there is such a place on this side of the island. Anyone have any suggestions as to a good burger joint in the Hilo/Puna area?

I'm pretty happy with Hilo Burger Joint on Kilauea St. in Hilo.

Not much of a burger person myself, but of the few I've tried here, Cronies would be my recommendation.

I've had good burgers at both Cronies and Hilo Burger Joint, but HBJ edges out Cronies. I've had amazing steaks at cronies though, so when I want a steak I go there in spite of the thoroughly worn out and duct taped together interior. HBJ is one cut above that, both have a bit of a dive bar feel.

On the topic of burgers, I've been to the Burger King in Hilo and in Kona, the one in Kona is away better than the one in Hilo. Had coupons for 11.99 Whopper meal for two. In Hilo, we got two tiny junior hamburgers and old fries. In Kona we got the the big burgers (what you're supposed to get with this deal) and the fries were fresh and Hot. I'm not normally a fast food guy, but when it's needed, it's needed.

Really? Both places seem downright refined, almost fine dining, compared to a few places I've been to! [Wink]
