Grand jury indicts Hawaii Island Mayor Billy Kenoi

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A grand jury has indicted Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi in connection with his alleged misuse of a government credit card.

The grand jury came down with the indictment Wednesday afternoon.

Hilo Circuit Court Judge Glenn Hara issued a bench warrant for the mayor's arrest.

He will be released on his own recognizance.

The court knows he'd just try to post bail on his pCard anyway.

Fairly serious charges !

Hawai’i County Mayor Billy Kenoi was charged with eight counts by a grand jury on Wednesday.

The charged were alleged from incidents involving the mayor’s county issued purchasing card between 2011 and 2015.

Kenoi was charged with two counts of felony theft in the second degree, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine; two counts of misdemeanor theft, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine; three counts of tampering with a government record, misdemeanors that are punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine; and one count of false swearing, a petty misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

I wonder if Mayor Kenoi could be offered immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony in more serious cases?

As I predicted chumps like Ken Goodenow will make sure that Kenoi's criminal issue won't be resolved while he is in office. I'm not sure but I think this is to protect Kenoi's pension status... so Kenoi's ability to continue sucking on the public straw won't be impeded.
