Kenoi On County Support For Astronomy, TMT On Mauna Kea
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mr20oBkOHb0
Pretty much 4 minutes of him saying Nothing and avoiding the question at all costs...
If he was serious about TMT, he would have been on to of Mauna Kea talking and doing something about it!
Sad really...
Thanks for the kenoi video Eric. I actually thought he(our mayor)did very well answering that complicated question. His answer was positive, honest, and accurate at the same time, jmo. Something he said, was that communication could have been much better amongst many, including communication with the community. He also recognized that the contested case hearing must be included( to take place) in this next pssible go around. Also shared a nice known fact that maunakea is still the best place in the world for astronomy, with or without the TMT. Mahalo again and not so sad after all, jmo.

If your against TMT, of course you're gonna find his words of joy... JMO.... But folks with "common sense" Will shake their heads in disgust... Altho, you are right, there are certainly more to blame. Ige could have stepped up his game, but chose to do nothing and leave a "MULTI BILLION" dollar project and jobs to the islands in the hands of people like the mayor to see to it that nothing gets done. Oh well... No big deal, it's only money and jobs. We don't need those things here.
Your Welcome, at least someone enjoyed it. The good news is, he won't be the mayor for long.

How is it that one opinion is "common sense" and another is, by implication, not when they really are just two opinions? Who here is deciding on what is "common sense"?
"Common sense" is not stepping in front of a bus. Whether a project such as the TMT is done or not has zero to do with "common sense". That is unless you are saying that folks that see the world differently than you don't make sense. Is that what you are saying ericlp? That America is a one size fits all and we all must see the world the same way kind of place?
Mahalo Ericlp, your points are valid.
Personally I think Maunakea is still the best place on earth to do astronomy, and is the astronomy capital of the world with or without this TMT'S multi billion dollar project. Because of that I feel other large future astronomy opportunities may be in search for conditions like maunakeas (respectfully of course).
The TMT wanted to own the summit of Maunakea for the next 70 important years. By being the biggest, most powerful, and last observatory allowed (#13) on the summit, jmo. When really the focus should be to decommission other outdated scopes, cleanup, respect, protect, and own up to past promises. Trust needs to be regained, people and communities need to be recognised. Then an environmentally friendlier multi billion or trillion dollar astronomy project or two, could possibly operate in Hawaii jmo.
Basically my feelings are that hawaii was selling out(ripping off)its people behind their backs(no contested case hearing). Also they were trying to sell or alter our incredible limited resources for cheap (nothing in return for many) with no respect or regard for the future generations to come. But I do believe others beside the Moore foundation or cal tech will be just as interested in doing other astronomy business atop maunakeas summit in the near future. Hopefully Hawaiians would be educated and respected more, than todays bunch of stupid angry native savages on Ebt. quote on quote, or thought by some astronomers.
P.S. Our great state is blessed with plenty of other unique qualities or opportunities like The Aloha spirit, patience, Hawaiian people, and their long lasting culture. These things can help bring more visitors from around the world to see and feel how things can be done here on the big island the Pono way, jmo.

"The TMT wanted to own the summit of Maunakea for the next 70 important years."
Where on earth did this come from? Thin air I presume, or somewhere much less pleasant.
Dear Tomas,
Predictable to a cliche', please do not reply to these 2 any more. All you doing is feeding they negativity and ignorance ... ( IMO ) As crazy as it sounds, you gonna seem more crazy / obsessed than (with) them in the long run if you keep on replying if anyone ( who understands their ignorance ) is keeping score. BC YOUR career is a real one, true life long professional. These two are just uneducated hacks Tom ....
aloha,
your friend who is not afraid to tell you

Thanks, Pog, understood. It's just sometimes blatant lies rile me up. I tend to ignore Gypsy's gibberish most of the time but that comment was so wrong it wound me up.
Yeah Yeah, but just sod ( it / them ) off Tom.

I think we can forget Billy Kenoi in this nonsense, no-one on either side needs his support. On the other hand, I've been made aware that during the next contested case there will be real Hawaiians supporting the TMT. I can't say a lot more right now, but hopefully it will make a change from the lies that the "protesters" and people like Gypsy69 have posted.
Realistically, I suspect the TMT is screwed because of the incompetence of the state and they would be better off moving to another site, but scientifically they should fight to be allowed to do astronomy on the mountain. There is no comparable site in the northern hemisphere. And I don't care how many astronomy related events Kenoi attended, it's irrelevant.
