Vermont passed a law in 2014 requiring GMO labeling on food products. Big business doesn't like the increased costs associated with the law, but they can't afford to stop selling their products in Vermont, which would be even more costly. General Mills, Mars and Kellogg will begin to include the notice "Partially Produced With Genetic Engineering" on their labels
nationwide, even in Hawaii, starting July 1, 2016:

So everything they produce will be labeled. Will you quit eating ?
Every product on the supermarkets shelves will be labeled that it could contain gmo's.

I plan to keep eating.
I don't have a problem with most GMO's.
What I found interesting is how one small state can pass a law that ends up affecting the entire country.
And it worked because corporations can't afford to lose the people of that small state as customers, for better or worse.

Pretty cool, eh? Even though Hawaii could have put some teeth into the issue, though to date has wimped out, Vermont pulls it off. I am way grateful.
Will it make a difference? I suspect it will change the industry completely. After all putting a poison symbol on food will seriously effect their sales. And nobody can claim that isn't why the GMO industry has fought so hard to prevent the labeling in the first place. They know that a large percentage of people feel that GMO crops are poisonous but have been too weak willed to do anything about it. But once they see it graphically all bets are off.
On a similar note Russia and Putin, as have been reported here:
http://www.australiannationalreview.com/...gmo-foods/
have become very outspoken on the matter. It's amazing to me that we, the good ol' USA, have coward to the petrochemical companies at all cost without seemingly caring one bit about the health and welfare of our citizens. Especially here on the production side in Hawaii where with our ocean boundaries we have ecosystems that are actually able to be preserved if only we had the will to do so.

Wow, deliberately misleading flame bait. Nothing to do with Hawaii.

deliberately misleading flame bait.
Food sold in Hawaii after July 1st will be sold with labels that state whether GMO ingredients are contained in the product. Even without a Hawaii County or State of Hawaii ordinance which has been previously discussed.
Sorry, I don't have any non flame bait info regarding availability of space based non-GMO Pork 'n Beans, which will be perfectly preserved eternally in the cold vacuum beyond Earth's atmosphere. This will be a great advantage to the industry as products will no longer need an expiration or use-by date. However, as soon as Campbell's succeeds in development of their nanotech cans that withstand orbital re-entry, I'll let you know. Until then, you're welcome to ignore this thread.

I guess no one understands what is going to happen.
All of these big corporations are going to label all of their food products as having some percentage of gmo.
People will still buy their products because they will be cheaper !
Expensive/extensive testing is required to claim that your product has no gmo's.
Health-food stores will all go out of business !!

I am curious about that expense driven market argument. It certainly appears to be the main force behind most people's shopping habits. Especially if the parking lot at Walmart is any indication. Though on a much smaller scale Island Naturals does a pretty brisk business as well. I wonder if the Nat were to expand their product line to cover all the things Wally's does but of a better quality would they compete head to head?
I think in a lot of ways our national standards set the tone of people's buying habits. Most people do not seem to take direct responsibility for their's rather they expect that the government is protecting them and go about their day. I certainly do not believe that people as a whole have faced the GMO issue and made conscious decisions to eat GMO products. As such I feel that labeling is the first step towards presenting people with that choice and look forward to seeing if with it their buying habits change.

Another victory for the anti-science crowd, hooray. It will indeed be interesting to see what effect this has.
I hope it leads to a range of products proudly labelled "non-GMO" and twice the price with no health benefits (just like Organic).
