This morning there was NO marked path or flag person hilo bound, I don't know how long this lasted. But people were playing chicken on the only lane open.

I have noticed less people posting to Punaweb yesterday and this morning. Coincidence, or roundabout conspiracies confirmed?

This can't be. There was a report yesterday that it was "just fine".
This phased opening is another puzzle piece. It seems to be going on as if the DOT thinks Puna drivers are mentally challenged, and need to become educated on how to navigate a roundabout by slowly being introduced to each leg. Good idea, should be just fine. It better be, there is no other choice. "Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!"

Has anyone else noticed that at the "Longs stoplight" there are 2 orange signs posted on the light post.
One has no right turn allowed onto Keaau Pahoa road (this is JUST BEFORE THE MERGE INTO THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, & just below is a "Detour" sign with an arrow pointing towards the right (& towards the short portion of Kahakai Td with Longs We hesitated, knowing that the circle WAS opened to Keaau bound tragic...but things could have changed...but... & figured there are probably many who might heed that incorrect signage & turn towards the detour sign arrow....

as if the DOT thinks Puna drivers are mentally challenged
I'm fairly certain they think this of the non-drivers as well.

But it falls under another agency's jurisdiction. With the exception of Pahoa's crosswalks, which are apparently for decorative use only. "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." -Annie Dillard

I had my first encounter with the roundabout today. What's the big deal?

I thought it was great. I mean, so far, what's not to like?

I haven't been to Pahoa for a while. Is the roundabout actually a roundabout yet, or some intermediate beast?
