Sorry, if you were expected a Prince tribute (RIP), but where did all the pigeons come from? Now it is coqui all night a coo KOO coo all damn day. I know they weren't in lower Puna last year....Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of these pests? I put out bird seed and now these bullies are getting fat. Didnt Grannies have a recipe for that?

I haven't really noticed an increase, but my cat did catch one the other day that got caught in the chicken coop. It was huge. My cat was so proud of himself.

Maybe it's all the new people moved to Puna who put out bird seed have caused what appears to be an overpopulation. I thought feeding wild birds was not a good thing, so why do so many people do it when we know it's harmful to the species?

I haven't noticed an increase either. I do know that we have way fewer coquis than when we bought our place about 5 1/2 years ago now.

Anyone know how pigeons got to the Big Island in the first place?

Please don't tell me it was someone who wanted to bring their mainland hobby (pigeon raising/ racing) to Hawaii and some birds "escaped".

If they were blown here during an epic storm from California or somewhere like a lot of bird species in Hawaii , that's fine. I guess we'll have to live with them.
