Letter from Helco
#1
Got a letter inviting me to join Energy Panel Hawaii. Looks like it will be a series of monthly surveys.

Anyone else get one?

Got one a few months back and signed up. Occasional survey, unless I'm missing them. It's sorta interesting what they ask. Like "If you could receive a xx% discount for not using your electricity between certain hours of the day, would you be interested in that?"

That's an interesting question. Too bad my refrigerator is electric.....if it wasn't for that, I bet I could go without electricity for quite awhile.

I can hardly wait for the "smart meter circus" to come to town -- should provide some nice comic relief from the depressing TMT drama.

We used to have a "time of use" meter; power was cheaper from 6pm to noon (leaving more resources for business and industry). It saved us money, so it was worth adjusting our schedules.

The hours are different here because there isn't much industry; it's more expensive in the evenings when people are cooking and watching TV.

you could put your fridge on a timer.

Top of the morning to you Kalakoa.
What do you mean or expect when you state something like "smart meter circus"? I got one of those smart meters put in last year and it seems to be working just fine, no complaints here. I do get letters now though that tell me how much electricity I am using compared to my neighbors, that's always interesting.

"smart meter circus"?

Google "smart meter" -- prominent results include

"As a result, bills are skyrocketing, health effects and safety violations are being reported, and ..."

"pulsed radiation smart meter networks, which are costing us money, privacy, and our health and safety"

"Smart Meters - Safe or Not? Read this before you allow your electric utility to put a Smart Meter on your house"

Given the existing base of anti-GMO, anti-herbicide, anti-growth, and NIMBYs, I fully expect the anti-smartmeter movement to produce amusing anecdotes and humorous soundbites -- and this is before we even get to the IoT security issues and privacy violations.
