We have a RR Box in a Keaau Sub Division and I've noticed something strange lately.
I usually get junk mail and credit card offers often.
But lately some days there's no mail which is unusual.
The other day I saw someone else's private box left open.
Then today my box was open when i went to check it late.
There was just one piece of personal mail in it.
So I think the cluster Box has been compromised.
Am I just jumping to conclusions?
Was this a mistake by the postal carrier?
Or is someone stealing mail?
Does someone have their hands on a master Key?
This is unacceptable.
BTW i've already checked my credit report and nothing unusual there but it may be too soon.
What would you do?
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

First thing I would do is inform the post office.

I'm not sure about the cluster you are referring to, but the PO people don't open individual boxes. They open a door in the back which opens all of them at once so they can put the mail in quickly. If individual boxes are open, it isn't the PO doing it.
I used to work for the USPS and I couldn't open the individual boxes if I wanted to. The key only opened the door on the back. Admittedly, that was a long time ago.
You need to call the Keaau post office and report this, and also the Postal Inspector Office at 877-876-2455. Postal inspectors are law enforcement officers and their primary mission is to investigate mail-related crimes.

investigate mail-related crimes.
It's also a federal crime. Maybe print up a small poster stating that fact and tape on the side of your mailbox unit.

If you are worried about credit theft, I highly recommend freezing your credit. Very easy to do. Go to the 3 main websites, Experian, Transunion and Equifax. For $5 you can put a freeze on your credit report. Nobody can pull your credit to issue any credit cards or loans.
Easy to put on the freeze and easy to unfreeze if you are applying for a loan or credit card.

I need to revise my previous post to interject that on some of the mail box clusters the USPS employee/contractor would open all the boxes at once from the front. If you look at the design of your cluster (or see the USPS person putting mail in) the design will be obvious. But they don't open individual boxes.
