Listen carefully to this video..( and I mean carefully.) maybe I'm a pessimist..but a company who provides a large amount of jobs is getting flak because they didn't bribe the right people.

Just delete everything in the first URL after the date. This will take you to the video page for Big Island Video news. Just did it, works fine.

Just the union activists flexing their muscle - same thing happened to Maile Sky Court renovation on Oahu. The unions have bought and paid for most of the elected officials in the state so any major job that doesn't go through the local union shops will get flack.

"Bribe" is such an ugly word; the correct pronunciation is "doing it in the right way". (Seriously, look for this expression in your favorite media coverage of anything shaped like "development".)

WTH? There is nothing about bribery in that video. The only corruption is in the mind of the OP.

Has anybody even noticed what this "construction" is? It was to put in a self checkout section. It was internal to the store, so it might be understandable that Walmart has been upgrading their other stores without any problem. Do some people think you need a permit to change a light bulb now? You know, it is really psychotic to whine incessantly about county permit regulations then whine if there is some perception an obscure requirement wasn't completed. Is there some Hawaii county building code that replacing human cash registers with self checkout stations are required? If so, would the accuser kindly point out that permit regulation.

This is more about what is coming ahead. Walmart probably laid off some checkout employees, they replaced about 5 lines with only 1 person at the self checkout. Walmart has said they are in a war of survival with Amazon, so there will be more changes ahead. It may come to Walmart having no inventory in the store, and it will be a place to pick-up orders. There is massive unemployment coming to many sectors.

I can't recall ever doing this before, but I have to agree with Pahoated on this one. The world is going to be in need of a new paradigm as machines take over more and more jobs. Here's hoping we are heading toward more of a Utopia than Dystopia.

Do those self-checkout terminals use electricity? Permits!

Walmart has said they are in a war of survival with Amazon

Then why is Walmart wasting time with self-checkout while Amazon tests drone delivery?
