We are hicop.org

Aloha fellow Punawebbers,

HICoP is a grass roots organization aimed at reducing the impact that tour helicopters have on our quality of life.

We have met with the FAA and the tour companies flight directors, and we have requested that they voluntarily fly offshore, similar to what’s recently happened in New York City;
http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/...alRule.pdf

A delegation including representative Kai Kahele recently spoke to the tour company owners; they refused to work with the delegation to make changes that would ease the noise issue plaguing so many Hawaii Island citizens, stating that our representatives have no jurisdiction. The FAA says the pilots can do pretty much whatever they want.

Volcanoes National Park now leads the nation with the most non essential tour helicopter over flights. With the opening of the new Federal Inspection station in Kona, tour helicopter operations are expected to TRIPLE from 15,000 in 2015 to 45,000 a year by 2017. Counted once in the national park you can double these with back and forth over our homes.

Maybe you saw our ad on the front page of yesterday’s Herald Tribune. Now is the time to speak up. Please join us or talk to your representative.

We ask that the helicopters fly over the water or lava and not over people’s homes. I will be at Makuu Marketplace this Sunday from 11-1 to try and drum up more support.

Our web site http://hicop.org has a voting guide and a Gofundme site (the ads are not free), as well as a link to the news story that aired recently on KGMB. Please leave a comment if you like. Mahalo!

Please help restore peaceful skies to Hawaii Island.

its a pipedream! period!

I live in Hawaiian Acres...... and I have no prob with helicopters, ever, and Im not deaf either.... its just that they dont compare to roosters, harleys, barking dogs, generators, 6AM shotgun blasts, heavy rain on a tin roof, etc. I actually cant remember hearing any helicopters today or yesterday, but I bet there was some..... or is it that I just dont notice them most times..... they dont startle, they slowly get louder, then they slowly get quieter... and they are fairly high up there too.. low private airplanes make more noise, but they arent as common...
fwiw an ocean rout from Hilo to the lava is crazy and just plain stupid and will limit the tourist to far less time actually over their destination, its like a huge circle and at least 2X farther than the direct route they have been doing for many yrs.. more gas $$ for chopper = higher prices for the trip and there will be less time over lava, and longer to get there and return... lose lose lose lose... I dont EVER see any company voluntarily screwing their business like that..... and there are homes along the shore too, so how far out over boring open ocean would these helicopter have to be to make you happy?... we buy our homes here know this going in.... and there are far more annoying noisy crap we deal w/ daily here than a helicopter flying over once every few hours if that...

is there such a thing as a "essential tour helicopter over flight"? they are all non essential, all tourist crap is...
also where did you find the info on 45K flight/yr, starting 2 months from now in 2017? I cant find anything like that on internet... thats 123/day, 365 days/yr... thats hard to believe...

save our indigenous and endemic Hawaiian Plants... learn about them, grow them, and plant them on your property, ....instead of all that invasive non-native garbage I see in most yards... aloha

Thank you for your support Frank!

I too live in HA. Those numbers that you read are self reported by the tour companies on a voluntary basis to the park. No one in the park is actually recording the numbers. Do you think they're accurate? The numbers are hard to believe but the data is recorded by flightaware.com On 12-26-15 I had 254 helicopter over flights over my house. Do you remember that day?

I am going to set up a radar ground station here at my house;

Have you heard of the new Kona Federal Inspection station?
http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/loc...land-tokyo

Once open affluent tourists can come directly here and you might not believe this but they not coming for our restaurants, luxurious accommodations or even our beaches. They coming to see the lava!

And after a Japanese national went missing in Kalapana Feb. 2013, they not going to be walking out there;

Helicopter over flights were not disclosed to me when we bought this house in 2008. It just keeps getting worse.

"I am going to set up a radar ground station here at my house;"

I'm in a direct flight path.
If I'm fully awake they don't bug me.
But Sometimes I need to sleep in and they wake me up early.
That's irritating and gets me up and angry.
Not a good way to wake up.
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.
