Kapoho Vacationland - Waiopae Road
#1
The recent supermoon brought pretty high tides (neap tides), and I'm curious how the Vacationland area fared with coastal flooding? How much did Waiopae Road flood? Can anyone report?

The preliminary observed high tide data indicates a peak of +3.458 feet, which is statistically significant, when compared to our diurnal of 2.4 feet. However, it is no higher than the surge during the many minor storms this season. Granted I don't live in Kapoho, but I have been in the area often this week, and have not seen any inundation.

UPDATE !!

Major flooding last night .No warning from CD or NOAA !

The water crossed Mayor Harry Kim's property with such force that it bent his gate, washed about a ton of gravel out of his driveway and when the water is that deep, his cesspool is under water !!

He should do something about his violations of county ordinances and state and federal laws before he takes office !!!

This might be a good time to ask.. I walk banyan drive around liliuokalani park everyday... Have the walkways around the ponds always flooded at high tide... or is that something new? - it does'nt seem like they would design it that way.

You are surely mistaken, it couldn't have happened. There's no such thing as global warming, climate change, or sea level rising. According to government authorities (the Republican party and their representatives) it's a Chinese propaganda conspiracy.

Subsidence caused by an earthquake !

Have you ever noticed how much smaller the other islands are ???

Isn't the island sinking under its own weight anyway? So it technically isn't any sea level rise that has occurred, but the sinking of the island.

I realise the post above is likely spam, but:

"When hurricane or flood comes it is considered that standing under door frame can save or life."

Standing under a door frame isn't going to do you much good in a flood or a hurricane.

so we have a new few monger in Puna! welcome, youre not alone lol
... cool, we need more of the fearful here in Puna lol... aloha GLinda Big Grin

fwiw, we are at the end of the current ice age/Quaternary Glaciation... the oceans rise the island sinks, Volcanic island sink slowly naturally, especially when moving north via plate tectonics ... and the humans alter the shoreline.... its natural.. the Big Island has evidence of multiple iceages and glaciation... go figure, is this young Hawaii island really that old, or do ice ages happen more often that you might think... when ice melts the seas rise.. when it freezes again at the polls the seas subside a bit... use your common sense here... did Waikiki flood last night? did Lahaina flood last night? did Hilo flood last night?
maybe people shouldnt live in a place at or below sea level thats ALWAYS flooded ie Bangladesh, New Orleans, and Kapoho...
