I'm shocked, shocked I tell you! How could they manage to build this without "protectors" protesting the "desecration"??!?!?!

According to Hawaiian Legend, Pele, the fiery goddess of the volcanoes in Hawaii, would send her white dog as a messenger to alert the people when an eruption was imminent.

What do dogs chase?
Cats.
What will a cat fence do?
Divert cats.

This fence could under the certain circumstances divert the path of Pele's white dog while it chases diverted cats, clearly something the Protectors need to look into.

We have been going up to HVNP a lot this year for many of the Centennial Celebration events & talks, and to truly appreciate the magnitude of this fence is to see the fencing crews after they have spent a week or so up there... this fence was truly a labor of a dedicated staff...
While busting up the rock to sink the fencing & posts, the crews went through many. many sets of gloves & boots & much of this work was remote enough that they had to stay up at elevation over nights, and much of it was busting up rock with hand tools
Hopefully, hunters and others will respect this dedicated work & not cut up the fencing... if not, the story of the Hawaiian Petrel may be one that will have an ending... at least on this island
