HPPOA GM Issues
#1
What is going on with the hiring and firing of the road crew? I am furious to hear that the GM is announcing he is rehiring a former employee who was dismissed for theft. J**** was fired( 2 years ago) for using the the HPPOA credit card for personal use and got caught , thus getting fired. Are there any oversight, managing of this GM? I also was informed that a road crew member was fired last week as well. Although I have not heard of the details and for all I know it could be legit, just seems the GM is stacking the deck. The shop was well staffed with relatives of J. S. (son in law) and a relative of J****'s . Could the GM be influenced by current employees in the hiring and firing ? Does anyone know if HPPOA has an HR committee in place? I am concerned the GM is putting the association at risk for liability, as was done previous. Any input to help calm the nerves would be appreciated.

I have been traveling back and forth from CA to the Big Island for the past 6 years taking care of my parents. I have been back for 1 year now.

Now that was hilarious Kalakoa...

DaKind, this is just another one of the whacko things that have been going on since Jul 2014. One of the whacko things included the unethical goings on w/the HR over the past 2 yrs +, conflict of interest and the hiring of an experienced GM. The question of his experience has come to the forefront when we look at the neglected condition of our roads, easements, and now the failing chip seal.

Lots of empire building going on since then w/the board and the employees. The membership has been increasingly cut out of the equation = Dictatorship. First overturning the membership's wish to vote on Chip Seal, the fraudulent district election last year, the illegal formation of a board committee "Election Committee" (conflict of interest), the recent appointment of the 2 vacant board seats, to not posting board mtg agendas on the HPP website.

Someone told me one of the last board mtg's discussion is to hire an atty to see if they can proceed w/the mailbox project. They want the atty to look at our bylaws. Looks like what they're seeking is for the atty to say they can overturn the bylaws? That's why new Dist 5 rep's husband's (previous pres) mantra was "the board can do whatever they want, the membership doesn't matter".

Another attempt to remove members out of the equation is the non compliance to a mandated bylaw to have a Finance Committee, to have FC mtgs and to have input and guidance from the FC to the board when managing OUR $$$. The new treasurer I heard thinks he can dismiss this bylaw and the FC. They are currently spending a lot of our $$$$$ w/absolutely no checks and balances by US = Dictatorship.

So this latest maneuver w/the GM and Jaime is just another whacko event. The board illegally gave the GM permission to hire and fire whomever he wishes w/out board involvement by writing up a policy that they think overrides our bylaws.

I want to clarify that what I said about the HR are not rumors. They are fact. I was on the HR which the board appt'd at the Jul 2014 board mtg. Lots of red flags for me over what was going on in that committee...conflict of interest, bypassing the board on our tasks, writing of job descript to fit "a friend" of the rep to the salary they chose. For awhile there was 2 reps and 1 member on the HR, which is against our bylaws. She turned out to be a friend of our then new ofc mgr too.

The rep was wearing 3 hats, interim GM, board rep and appt'd herself chair of the HR. Waiting to hire the GM until the very last, 8 mos later, after all the ofc staff was changed out. That would take out the equation of the GM interfering w/the input and selection of staff and allow the interim GM to continue w/her agendas for 8 months.

Lots of red flags. I relayed that after the recent 3 terminations of key employees, our job will be scrutinized so we need to follow the bylaws. NOPE! So I resigned and I paid attention to the HR after that. They continued to break bylaws. So not rumors, FACT.

The shenanigans w/in the HR contributed big time from 2+ yrs ago to what we see today. When people are getting fired and hired left and right, it isn't in HPP's best interest. It creates chaos. A gag order on employees was added.

So whats best? To go to meetings and get shouted down( or in my case the police escorted me out before the meeting )
One of the board members was scared of me because she had screamed at me when I was delivering water just after the hurricane.

Or just hope 4 the best???

and keep paying $300 per year
aloha
