Pahoa pool?
#1
Anyone know if they may be closed for maintenance? My wife was going to go Tuesday and it was closed. She's been going 2-3 times a week. She wants to try again tomorrow.

Thanks!

Also they are now closing for a longer lunch daily (I think 11:30-1) and no adult aerobics June & July, due to not enough lifeguards/swim instructors..

The pool will also be closed Monday May 29 for Memorial Day. It is good to bookmarks the Aquatics link so that you can get the current pool schedules if you are a semi regular user:

Here is a link for the county Aquatics summer pool closures:

They are closing the pool for Memorial Day? That's intelligent.

County workers don't like to work holidays or take staggered lunches. Just another reminder of who really controls the government and makes the rules around here. And the answer, if there ever is one, will be to do an expensive "study" and/or hire yet more employees.

They do not have enough lifeguards to do staggered lunches (regulations cover how many must be on deck at any time...)
They have tried to hire...but do not have applicants that are qualified & show up...

Carey,
Are there stringent requirements to qualify as a county lifeguard? It seems like it would be an ideal job for many young swimmers & surfers on the island.

If they are having trouble recruiting lifeguards why don't they offer "points" towards college tuition, or the ability to roll into a beach duty position if not available, on top of pay as an incentive? Or even a "Waterman" program that one could start at the pool, and work credit/advanced training program to work their way up to a position as EMT on the Fire Department rescue team roster.
