"From each according to his abilities" .....Oh wait, strike that......."To each according to his needs."
So it really isn't communism. What are we supposed to call this?

Socialism run amok?

ps - I had commented on this, in the "politics" forum.

Technically, its economics and the best way to discuss it is leave politics out. That way you can discuss whether it's viable or not and maybe avoid "toe stepping".

Leave to a Welfare State to come up with yet another handout.

glinda I can agree with some of what you said, but I do have to say this...

People give too much credit to to celebrities and their opinions.
It's like a lottery winner telling me to liquidate all my assets and buy a powerball ticket because "hey, it works!".

If you are a low-end worker to begin with, why would you bother to work if you could get a handout instead? Where is the incentive to go out and better ones self? This state already has too many people taking the free handouts and the state claims it is short on money to begin with.

America is a socialistic country, period.

People who toss the word socialist into a discussion like it's a lit Molotov Cocktail prefer different words to describe the U.S. military (flag! troops!), even though it's the largest socialist organization in the country.

It's certainly the biggest, most expensive socialist organization in Hawaii: Hickam, Schofield, Kaneohe Bay, Pohakuloa, etc, etc, etc... If you compare the costs of the military and the 23% of their funding that goes unaccounted for every year, it would be like providing Hawaiian residents a $100,000 base universal income, with a free $500 hammer thrown in (unlike a Molotov Cocktail) every year.

Just make sure none of this "universal income" is spent on hard drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.! ( Oh yea, how would we do that?)

At least ETB cards aren't supposed to be for these things. Imagine what a huge black market these "UI" cards will create if one can't buy liquor and cigarettes with them.

If we just give the druggies, the homeless and the lazy more money, they will turn into upstanding citizens. What a great idea this is.
