It seems odd that they are calling a drive along existing roads a "trail" but they made a website about it. The audio on their website is quite accurate, I didn't even realize why the birds outside were louder at first. At least it's good for looking up birds and the Hawaiian names.

Thank you for the link to the website! Last week my daughter and I hiked the Pu'u O'o trail, and saw a wild turkey -- at least that was what I thought I saw, but wasn't sure. The website confirms their presence. We heard lots of unfamiliar bird calls, but couldn't make out the backlit birds high in the tree canopy. I will go again with binoculars. Didn't see a single other person the entire hike.
About the title, it seems they are using "trail" the same way people talk about "wine trails" or "food trails": a road map connecting various points of interest.

I guess I'm out of the loop. Wine trails and food trails? Meh.
The site is great for identifying birds though!
Pu'u O'o has its peak times and slow times. There are often groups of tourists or biologists or students out on that trail.

Last time I saw one was on south Moku St. in the middle of the road, just standing there.

Just fyi, saw 6 of them come out of the jungle on an undeveloped lot, go across the street (Luana) and disappear into the jungle there. Took their time, even as my dog ran up to investigate them they did not take flight or seem particularly alarmed as the dog's approach.
