Rainfall totals were highest in the upper slopes of the South Hilo district, where several rain gauges recorded to two to three feet of water in a 72-hour period ending Thursday at 11 a.m.
Saddle Quarry saw a staggering 44 inches over that period, while Hakalau got 27 inches of rain.

Keaumo: 19 inches
Mountain View: 17 inches
Waiakea Uka: 17 inches
Laupahoehoe: 9 inches
Kapapala: 8.4 inches

The great storm of 2000. Who here at the time can forget it? Three feet of rain in Pahala in 24-hours. IIRC, no major highway remained open, even 130 was closed due to flooding.

Yes, what most people call rain, we call "drip dropping". This has been a bit of real rain.

I remember that. About 26 inches of rain in Leilani in one day, water puddled everywhere in the house, even though on 3 foot posts, coming through the walls, windows and screens. They reported 3 feet of water over Rt. 130 at Kipuka farm, (The bridge between HPP and Keaau).

The other thing I remember about that event is every TV and radio station was off-air other than one local radio station (I forget which one).
One unfortunate Hilo resident called in live and asked drivers on the road he lived on to please drive a little slower. Every time someone drove by, especially trucks, sent a wave of water crashing into his garage which had already started flooding.

Looks like the tourist season will coincide with a monsoon this year.
