Pu'u O'o inflation

All of our would be volcanologists, any predictions?

The tiltmeter on Pu`u `O`o cone continues to record the notable inflationary tilt that started on March 12. Continuously recording GPS stations on Pu`u `O`o also started recording extension across the cone on that date. Webcam views show that long-term sources of glow within Pu#699;u #699;#332;#699;#333; crater persist. Increased webcam views of spattering from the West Pit lava pond have been visible over the past few days. This is likely due to ground subsidence noted over the past two months, followed by the current rise in the surface level of the lava pond, coincident with the ongoing inflationary tilt.

My prediction is continued inflation/deflation cycles persisting longer term. The ocean entry dried up and the coastal plain activity has seen reduced to no surface flows for a while. Just action around the Pali, and the PuuOo vent itself, along with the ongoing lake action at Halemaumau. We'll get a release of some sizable volume at some point, and the cycle will continue.

we could be leading up to a local event around Puu Oo. it certainly seems a bit out of the ordinary. similar signals (albeit larger) occurred in June 2014 and May 2016, which marked the beginning, and end, of the Pahoa flow.

There is a correlation between the solar minimum cycle and increased volcanic activity on Earth. The next solar minimum cycle 2019-2020 is forecast to be especially minimal. I can't find the link right now but a Japanese study linked the cycle specific to high-silica magma (Hawaii volcanoes are low silica) but I think that was because they were studying Japanese volcanoes. The Japanese study also linked the cause to be that during the solar minimum the Earth is less protected by the sun's magnetic field and that cosmic rays somehow interact with the magma. I think the NASA study blames a change of the Earth's rotation. Whatever the cause, the link between terrestrial volcanic activity and Sun activity have been linked in multiple studies and we are entering a period of reduced sun activity and therefore increased volcanic activities.

I didn't fact-check it but I had read that the next solar cycle is supposedly the weakest since the Maunder Minimum ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maunder_Minimum ) which supposedly caused "the little ice age". I think I remember reading that there were ~17 major volcanic eruptions during that time frame.

She is sending another flow to the ocean inside the park .
There may be some blockages in her plumbing - thus creating her inflation - a few good quakes above 6.5 should rectify this current back flow of magma along the rift .
And then lets not forget MaunaLoa who is way over due to send flows to the ocean or create new Pu'u's .
Only she knows her schedule - not us humans .
We only live 100 yrs and she is millions of 100s earth years in the making.

It looks like there have been quite a few earthquakes today (4/11). I live up Hamakua and haven't felt any of these... Have any of you?
