Aloha,Rob!
I always wanted all business information on this forum to be in one thread ( non-archived ,if possible).
I was thinking, may be forum members can use this(or other thread) to post their business cards.
As a future new home owner I am going to need a lot of stuff to do and hate using search button (thanks God I am not on dial-up!)
P.S As a thread moderator wannabe(Hi,Damon!)
I would like it to be for the forum members or their referrals only.Because recently we have someone on this forum who keeps advertising their business ,giving misleading statements.
So it would be nice if those type of business cards will be removed by Rob if he considers it necessary.
OK,on this note I am going to shut up and wait for Rob to answer.

When Punaweb was started we created pages for business listings for Puna businesses under the home page title "Shopping in Puna". I offer free listings to any Puna business. The intention was to charge some fees on a rising scale for businesses outside of Puna.
Ideally I would like to offer support to those entrepreneurs who work out of their homes and simply can't afford the Yellow Pages or display advertising. Some I have talked to appreciated this service. Some have told me that they are too busy with work and don't particularly need more exposure. Always a mix.
Fact is I have not had the time or energy to keep up with it. There is a constant flow of businesses opening and closing, people arriving and leaving. Punaweb either needs some volunteer web masters or some dependable funding source.
To add a function such as members posting 'business card' listings and keep it strictly Puna is difficult. Internet is world wide. Not easy to separate actual Puna residents from anyone else. Takes time and money to even try.
It is not a bad suggestion but I have a couple other problems with the proposal.
One is the act of someone promoting someone else's business for them. As I mentioned earlier sometimes a person doesn't really want more calls than they can handle.
Two is it also opens the door to dis-recommending someone which could take the form of a member posting a business listing for someone they like and later asking me to remove the endorsement because they change their mind.
Three is configuring all business information into one thread. Not practical in my POV. Restaurants and architects and carpenters and sales people.
My preference at this time is for business people to present themselves to Punaweb for promotion. I do not object to members sharing any experiences they have (good or bad) as long as they don;t make a career out of it but until I can establish the funding for constantly editing the business listings (it costs me money to add or subtract businesses) and periodically canvassing the district for new businesses I can't keep up with the system now in place. It is woefully out of date.
There is a person in Puna, Michael Vo, who is wanting to set up a site for Puna business and is offering free single web pages to any Puna business. Perhaps it might be prudent for Punaweb to support that effort in some way.

I see your point,Rob!
I totally agree with you,only I thought about a smaller scale,like "homeowners must have" stuff:remodeling ,handymen ,gardeners,etc.
But I didn't realize that it would be too much to handle.
Anyway,I am very grateful that you allow business signatures and links.
I really don't know what I would do without this forum!
Almost got myself in the yurt, for crying out loud!
Thanks again.

In some old post it was a forum member who was referred to as a professional in computers, who "eat websites for lunch".(Hooligal?)
May be that person can unload some weight from your shoulders,Rob?
I wish I could help, but my computer knowledge is pretty basic.

There is a very nice forum member whose name escapes me who built a very cute yellow house up the mountain aways. She linked to her blog where she helpfully posted business cards for all the contractors she worked with.
The other way to find contractors is to do a search on the type of contractor (e.g., "plumber" or "electrician") you will see plenty of suggestions.
I have found every good contractor I needed through this forum. The one stinker I had I found on my own.

Rob, you mentioned some businesses are just too busy to take new customers. Could you, or anyone out there give some examples? (Looking for new business ideas)

Glen, that was Rumi in Hawaii -- a search should turn up the post where she reference the online list of contractors for anyone interested.
She had a good, comprehensive list, if I remember right.

Glen, the whole idea was not to use a "search " button, have all in one place.
