No. I get more timely and accurate information from Punaweb and other sources. For example, Hawaii News Now often has CD info or equivalent on the air before the official CD channels get it out.

No. Punaweb is the most accurate and timely by far.

No, unfortunately.
The Civil Defense Facebook account posts alerts before I get the text message on my phone, which is before the alert is posted to the web site, many minutes later. In some ways this makes sense as Facebook is able to disseminate the message the quickest, but it means checking the Civil Defense website is one of the slowest ways to stay informed. With the upgrades to their map server, their websites have been dependable. Accuracy has been so-so, with some messages being vague and a few messages being downright undecipherable (multiple color codes given for multiple locations and events).
Social media has been the quickest way to find out about breaking news as long as you find sources you trust that bring photos and video to back up their stories. HNN, KHON2, KITV, and KWXX post most of their stories to facebook first (many times live) and then repackage and edit for the evening news. I'll take my info straight from the horse's mouth, thank you very much, instead of a talking head summary after the fact.

No.
Let us not forget that 20 years ago we wouldn't be questioning the "official" source of information because there was little alternative. It is only with the internet, social media, and real-time citizen delivered digital content that we have a gauge to judge the government by.
This "new knowledge" is a double-edged sword, because getting bad news from any source is equally possible. But when you're watching a live-stream of a lava fountain and CD web site is reporting no current lava activity, us lowly serfs quickly lose faith in the emperor.

Not timely, so accuracy and dependability hardly matter. FB while not always accurate or dependable is current. We can't know tomorrow we should have left today.

No. Though I suspect they have good intentions. Just don't have a staff that knows what to do. From understanding the geology and how to work with the press to being able to manage a website, I suspect they are out of their depth. The good old boys.. which are all fine and good when nobody's looking.. got caught with their pants down on this one.
