Hoped-for obituary:
Puna Loa, once known as “Fissure 8”, died suddenly last Sunday of what were described as natural causes. Born May 5, 2018 in loa Puna, she is survived by her mother Kilauea, her grandmother, Mauna Loa, and her aunt Loihi. Tragically, her sister Pu’u O’o died on Puna Loa’s birthday. Puna Loa lived a short, tempestuous life. From a noisy, bright child she quickly rose to prominence as one the most powerful land developers in recent Hawaii history. While her achievements will no doubt be admired for many generations to come, her contemporaries were appalled by her activities. Her fiery personality and her complete disregard for the wishes of local residents won her no friends. Apart from a few in the media and scientific communities, her passing went unmourned. Rest in peace, Puna Loa.
