Lower electric bills on the horizon?
#1
This is dated January but I had not heard this before-

"The 460,000 customers of the Hawaiian Electric Companies could see lower electric bills as a result of the federal corporate income tax cut.

Changes to federal tax law will lower corporate rates from 35 percent to 21 percent starting this year. That is expected to result in a lower tax bill for Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light.

State and federal taxes are included in the base electric rate and with a lower federal tax, the tax rate imbedded in the bill will be reduced."

Might have happened - until the price of oil went up...Expect the rate to now rise...

And PGV shutting down. Though, I don't know how much or if that actually saved us any money. Hellco is basically a cost-plus contract. If they want to make more money, they will just hire more companies to trim trees. Their ultimate goal is to outsource energy production (not to the consumer's benefit) and just be a billing company skimming off the top.

Correct. Energy production is too risky.

Corporations are generally interested in their own bottom line and shareholder return on their investment, not spreading the wealth with the host locality ......

Yep, and every month , when I get one of those crappy comparisons of my energy use vs. our neighbors, I steam. I know I am paying for this mailer which accomplishes nothing & provides me with nothing.

With PGV offline, your bills will only go up.

Your bills were only going up anyway.

So, PGV going offline is bad because Hawai'i now relies 20% more on non-green energy. As for average cost, I recall reading that the bill will only go up about 2.50$ for each resident. I cannot recall where I read that, though, so I may be full of ****.

No, PGV offline GOOD because no more "clouds of toxic gas" nor "desecration of the land".

Right?

Worse. It is especially bad because that non-green energy is being generated by bunker fuel (aka leftover oil). Imagine if one of those tanker ships had a spill on the coast...
