Aloha macophiles. Does anyone know if I can buy Leopard on this side of the island? I wanted to wait, but now I have to upgrade asap
I'm hoping it's a walmart or office max or ???
For future reference...when you need Mac stuff you can't get in Hilo... do you order from Honolulu Mac Store, apple.com or one of the Mac guys in Kona?

The UHH bookstore sells them. You can buy even if you're not a student, you just don't get the academic discount.

Just buy on Amazon and save on paying tax. Or check dealmac.com where they always list mac deals.

You can also buy from the Apple Online Store and get free shipping. You do pay Hawai'i sales tax.

I just bought Leopard to upgrade my Mac and ... whoa... discovered I did not have enough memory, so had to buy memory too. Check to see that you have at least 512 RAM.
We bought OSX 10.5 from Apple, they shipped it FedEx and it got here fast.... two days I think. I never thought to look at the UH bookstore. GREAT tip. Will check there next time I need MAC stuff.

yes, college campuses are great place to upgrade one's OS. If you know anybody who goes to school there have them buy your new OS...fairly good savings.

Yeah, I used to work for Stanford University & I *really* miss the university discount at the Mac Store!
FWIW, my dad just got a new iMac yesterday & said he got a Veteran's discount - like 25% !!! If you are, or were, in the military, be sure to ask when you buy direct from Apple - could be a huge savings!

By the way, hooligal, thanks for making the subject line so clear by starting with the word "Macintosh". Had you started it with "Leopard in Hilo" I don't think I would have slept that last 2 nights waiting for a stealthy large cat to leap out of the jungle and attack.
