HELCO bill doubled!
#1
Anyone else have this issue with this month's bill? Is something up or did they just read our meter wrong?

Mine was high because I got a lot less from the solar panels at the same time my tenants used more (grr), but more or less normal. Not off the scale or anything.

We went through this recently. My wife called them and we got an "explanation" that they don't check the meters on what can be described as a regular schedule. We were told our next bill would likely be substantially less. Just telling you what we were told.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Mine was low this time. Only 29 day billing cycle. And they came and visually read the meter. Last month it was a 32 day billing cycle.

The monthly minimum increased to 25.00 this month, if that makes any difference for those with solar backup.

Go out and read your meter and compare it to your bill. All of the little dials have an arrow to indicate the direction to read them.
If the reading is off they will catch up next month.

2-3 years of the monthly minimum would pay for a solar system that can run a small cabin. If you're getting screwed on your bill, consider your options!

Mine was basically the same, about .50 less than last month.
Does HELCO indicate on bills if the usage is estimated?

Oops, forgot to ask, did HELCO ever pass the savings from their reduced corporate taxes on to us? It was actually mentioned on the news this spring, but I’ve not heard anything about it since.

We think it was due to a bunch of extra usage - we had some machinery on for hours on end. Since we're ending service next month, we're hoping it'll even out. We no longer have the "dial-type" meter, btw. It's totally digital now. Maybe some earlier reading on the dial-type meter was off.

Yeah yours must be to extra usage. Just got mine and it is exactly the same.
