Puna roads, now available in Kohala?
#1
A new Kohala development wants to be exempt from certain rules regarding county infrastructure standards and statutes...

So 1150 houses at about an acre a piece where there in no water. Calling it Ag anything is total BS

Clearly, someone is trying to extend the scams perpetrated in Puna and South Kona to South Kohala...

But you can see how those Puna subdivisions got done - following exactly the same script:otherwise worthless land; can't be sold for productive use as a large tract; subdivide it and sell it to credulous buyers who want to live in paradise on the cheap... If they can get the subdivision approved, they will profit handsomely....

The Puna subdivisions were approved by the then, Board of Supervisors in violation of the road building requirements established in the 1950s. Those same standards are still effective on the books.
Assume the best and ask questions.

where there in no water...

I believe, someone correct me if I am wrong, that new (proposed) subdivision would rely on the same wells as the rest of the South Kohala area.

There is a well, along the old portion of the saddle road, Waikii side, that until it was brought online (mid 80s?) there was no water anywhere in South Kohala. It was that one well that has allowed for all the development that followed Chris Hemmeter's Hyatt Regency Waikoloa.

When that well was first tapped they said it would support unlimited development on that side of the island.

And really, that's a simple one, though I doubt paying for water and watching it evaporate as quickly I as suspect it would where they are proposing that subdivision would drive a farmer nuts. Though I can imagine other forms of ag that would love to be there.. greenhouses, aquaponics where the water isn't just being put in the ground. It has a tremendous amount of sunshine. Maybe orchids? Or is the weather in Puna more conducive to that?

Just like all sorts of places on the planet, irrigation, the transport of water from one place to another, could make that place bloom.

btw.. if one goes back to the original Waikoloa Master Plan it includes development of the entire ahupuaa from #190 to the coast. This is just a small increment of a plan that has been in motion since the '70s.

There will be no money spent on lower puna until the volcano goes dormant. That should be obvious.

no money spent on lower puna until

County could save even more money by refusing to issue permits in lower Puna.

From the article :

"Infrastructure for the community will be provided on site, according to the draft EA, including water wells and tanks."

Choke deep soil there - awesome views ,
these large lots went to county tax auction less than 15 yrs ago - two very wealthy sisters bought these tracts for 2 point 2 million each .
They bought over 20 of these lots for pennies on the dollar .
No other bidders at that county land tax auction that day so they got them ..fast forward to now and blammo here we go again. KA CHING
