The Pahoa roundabout has been weeded and replanted thanks to Rene Siracusa. Thank you Rene!
Malama O Puna, led by Rene Siracusa coordinated a joint effort with twelve members of the Hawai'i Youth Challenge/staff, and the Hawai'i Police Department in removing the weeds near the Pahoa roundabout. Siracusa obtained the proper permits from the state to have weeds pulled and foliage replanted in three medians around the roundabout.

Roundabout in Pahoa? That'll never work.

Seriously though, glad we got that one in before the CAVE people realized they can postpone just about any improvement to life here.
Thank you Rene!

I guess it's now the Ring of Enlightened Choice.
It's so wonderful the permits were obtained to clear the weeds and have foliage replanted. It's outstanding what local government can achieve with the right politicians in charge.

I was undecided about the roundabout when I first heard they were going to make one in Pahoa. Seems like a great decision to build it. I have yet to see an accident happen there. Used to see overturned cars, especially at night, in the old intersection.

Surprisingly, there have been a few. One, headed south into it, hit the curd just before and took out a fire hydrant. If you see the busted out section of fence on the east side of the northbound lane, that was another one. The county has never bothered to fix the fence.

The roundabout has been a success for sure. A life saver even. Especially compared to the amount of accidents in the past at that spot with the lights. However, drunk drivers will be... well... drunk drivers. They have a serious problem with curds. Too chunky.
