Buses account for 25% of the fossil fuel use on the island?
County statisticians account for 25% of the numerical errors on the island.
That I’d believe.

Re: retrofit of diesel buses, anyone know what happened to the brand new double decker bus which was rolled out with great fanfare, then disappeared from sight?
I have seen a number of re-purposed tour buses being used on the Hilo - Kalapana route, but have never seen the double decker in use.

Didn't we already establish that it's cheaper and more reliable to contract out the buses than to operate and repair them with county workers? Isn't half the fleet out of service right now?

I was hoping the article could explain how busses account for 1/4 of the fossil fuel used on the island. Seems wrong to me, but I'd be willing to hear it from an expert.
Also, why is landfill methane being burned off rather than being used to generate electricity?
No mention of the cost for this bus project. Why is that?

Given how much fossil fuel is used by everyone's private vehicles, the numerous large trucks driving between Kona and Hilo, the fossil fuel that is used to generate electricity on the island and the fuel needed to enable aircraft at Kona and Hilo to fly, I'm a little surprised by the 25% number as well. Maybe it's 25% of the county's fuel budget that's used by buses. It would be nice to get clarification.

Need a lot of power to make the Hydrogen. Right at PGV would make the most sense. The landfill gas idea is kind of Delusional it too dirty.

That's why the National Park bought those busses. The hydrogen production facility was proposed to be built at PGV but I think the anti everything group scared them away from doing it.

They can't repair half the buses that use 19th century technology and they are buying hydrogen buses?
Hindenburg: That is all.
