A camp of illegal tents and tarps between Ponahawai and Mamo streets in downtown Hilo has been given one month to move. Keith De La Cruz, owner of the Hilo Farmers market which had been cited and fined for illegal tarps over several years, commented:
The presence of the camp occasionally interferes with the nearby Hilo Farmers Market, said market owner Keith De La Cruz. Vendors and customers have complained.
One resident of the camp explained the reason for his presence:
Ikaika went on to say that it is his calling to be at the camp so he can educate others about the “dark nature” of the English language, which he claimed was designed by Satan.

. . . the “dark nature” of the English language, which he claimed was designed by Satan.
This is not unique to Ikaika. The first time I heard it was in my sixth grade spelling class, and it cropped up again frequently when we were conjugating irregular verbs later on.

It's apparently "acceptable" for protectors to establish camp on Mauna Kea, what makes this Downtown Hilo installation any less valid?

conjugating irregular verbs
Conjugating does sound an awful lot like conjuring, which is one of the devil’s snares. And irregular, well, enough said.

The guy needs to watch Rudolph again and then "educate others about the “dark nature” of the Elvish language, which was designed by Santa."
He needs to get the word out about a dark presence like Santa who watches little children when they sleep (CREEPY), captures Elves on their way to dental college and forces them into slave labor, and ridicules and exiles creatures, branding them "freaks" or "misfits" just because they don't match his narrow definition of perfection... until he can find a way to exploit them.

I've walked by the place about 2 dozens times; it has a big fence around it and you can't see inside. It's pretty discreet. Not to say the homeless living here don't cause problems, but it's better to have them in there (with a portages-potty) than sleeping in doorways of businesses.
There's about 10 homeless doing that now just on the stretch from the market to Waianuenue. Probably 15-20 homeless in the encampment. If they close the encampment, where are those 15-20 going to go? To join the other 10 homeless sleeping in the doorways?

Apparently you can camp on Mauna Kea, maybe they can join the protestors up top.

MarkD, it is my understanding that there are both empty shelter beds available, as well as county-sanctioned locations for hamping (homeless camping), if these people "choose" to occupy them. They "prefer" not to.
They are in violation of multiple laws and codes that the community, for better or worse, agreed, for reasons of safety, sanitation, economic stability, etc., that it was in the best interest of the larger community to follow. We seem to now be in an era where individuals can "choose" which laws/rules they are going to abide by, and our (spineless) community "leaders" can "choose" which laws/rules are going to be enforced and against whom they will be enforced (it's increasingly clear that some of us are more special than others of us where enforcement is concerned).
I think that this can legitimately be termed anarchy (noun: anarchy a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority...) and I personally don't expect a good outcome (for the broader community) from this trend.
