10 page obituaries & Mass Graves: Hawaii's future?
#1
Italy and Iran are the second and third hardest hit countries by COVID-19 currently.

In Italy, back in early February the obituaries in the local paper only took up about a page and a half. Five weeks later, there are now ten pages of obituaries.

In Qom, Iran, a city of 1.2 million people, several hundred people at least have died in the past several weeks, requiring the use of mass graves to bury all the dead.

In Hawaii, we are at where Italy was less than a month ago, with everyone thinking it's just a handful of cases and what's the big deal. If we do not want to end up where Italy and Iran are now, everyone needs to take action NOW to social distance, avoid all unnecessary public interactions, wash your hands, and take all precautions possible to reduce the spread of this virus.

... stay healthy, stay home...

... stay on Punaweb.
Let’s make this forum so interesting we don’t even think about wading into a crowd of people.
Rob has provided us with a Pandemic Safe Space:

* Built-in social distancing
* No coughs, no sneezes
* If you use a dedicated personal computer your hands are always clean. So touch your face, and face palm to your heart’s content while reading posts.
* Dont get stuck in a routine. Argue with someone who isn’t in your house for a change of pace. Remember, variety is the spice of life!
* Stay current with the latest local TP supply updates

And remember, Punaweb is better with coffee rather than beer. I’ve read coffee posts, and I’ve read beer posts, and that’s just my opinion! JMO!

Italians today under quarantine send messages to their old selves 10 days ago, as a warning for the U.S. , England, and France who are likely less than 10 days from the same fate.

There was the death percent thread and now this - obituaries and graves. I might be wrong but all this morbid thinking is not going to help anyone and in fact, makes things worse. Yes, the things will get bad but can't help thinking of the blitz on London in the 1940s and people kept their spirits up by looking on the bright side of things. Humor is critical at this point for various reasons.

And not only humor, inspiration.

I appreciate your point TomK, but have found that people need to understand the stakes involved in order to possibly take things seriously. It's one thing to keep a stiff upper lip, but you first have to face reality.

However if free Opera is the carrot that convinces everyone to hunker down and ride out the storm, then sign me up. There is great beauty possible within the darkness unfolding.

The doomers and the preppers have been waiting their whole lives for this, let them have their moment.
It will all be over in a couple of months, even sooner if people stay home, keep their distance and wash their hands.
That also helps against the common flu which you don’t hear much about any more but won't have disappeared.
