It’s more of a **** move than you think. If the businesses aren’t closed by a declaration they can’t apply for a lot of FEMA / SBA programs

In a letter, 94 local doctors and health professionals urged Governor David Ige to immediately take more decisive action to limit the spread of COVID-19.

From letter.. link posted by Obie above..

• For families: Everyone should stay home. Travel and social events should be postponed or canceled.

• For workers and businesses: All non-essential businesses should be closed. All non-essential government employees should also be sent home. Only take-out should be allowed from restaurants; bars and other entertainment venues should close. Those who cannot go to work should be able to receive paid leave or Unemployment Insurance.

• For visitors: Everyone entering the state should be screened. The state should develop protocols for those exhibiting symptoms and provide hand sanitizer to passengers. The same restrictions for local families should apply to visitors.

• For the medical community: The state should ensure it has adequate facilities for those affected by COVID-19. Testing should be free and easier to access by waiving the requirement for a primary care physician order.

Multiple news agencies are now reporting that the island of Kauai has a 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew decreed by their mayor.

Edited to add: tThey are also reporting that the mayor is refusing to allow touristss to arrive on the island. I wonder if he has the legal authority to do that, or if the governor's approval would be required for it.

From Obie's link:
quote:
3.) Work with the state and counties to provide a plan and allow for the operation of emergency child and youth care centers for children of front line health care workers and workers who are unable to work from home, especially our low-income families.
Whoops, they screwed up that one. Children should stay at home with their families, family friends, or neighbors, not be intermingling at daycare in larger numbers.

Aside from that, I wholeheartedly agree.

I wonder if he has the legal authority to do that, or if the governor's approval would be required for it.

If Trump has taught us anything it is that laws are for sissies. The only laws that matter are the ones you want to follow. All others are mud. The only actions that are "legal" are the actions you take.

I suspect there will be protests, people denying anyone entry to all islands, within a day of two. Fear mongering? Look at what's happening on Molokai..

Dozens on Molokai protest at airport, urging visitors to go home

About 60 Molokai residents staged a protest at the island’s airport on Wednesday morning.

They’re saying they don’t want any more visitors coming to the island as a precaution against coronavirus.

“We are here today to exercise our rights and our voices to ask tourists and people who are not from here to please stay home,” said resident Zhantell Lindo.

The latest gem from Harry

“You’re not going to keep teenagers locked up in their houses when their parents are working,” Kim said. “We want them to congregate where it’s monitored and clean.”

Someone needs to let him know congregating is not what anyone should do.
