hand sanitizer status
#1
On NPR this morning the subject of hand sanitizer came up. It was said that the manufacturers are stuck. They ran out of containers. The containers come from China. Might be several weeks before they can package and ship.

Just FYI

I guess it is wash your hands and sing Happy Birthday twice time.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Just a suggestion: reserve hand sanitizer for use in your vehicle, and wash hands at home or work.

It's a mystery to me why people need hand sanitizer. Just use soap!

Well Paul, Sinks and soap are difficult to carry around with you. Just a guess.

Just another of many examples why its a problem to outsource manufacturing to someplace thousands of miles away. Even Hawaii should be more self sufficient.
Maybe important lessons to be learned. maybe not.

I thought we were supposed to be staying home?
Seriously, after seeing the empty shelves I think some people think that only hand sanitizer will do. And toilet paper will ward off evil spirits.

Came across this simple home formula...

60% -160% grain alcohol (Crystal Springs, you can get it at Longs or KTA or a liquor store)
40% aloe vera gel

That sounds easier than lugging a sink around.

While it isn't very often I find myself agreeing with you on anything, at any time.
You have caught this one right.

Rob, the FINISHED product is supposed to be 60%, so your recipe is not as effective in virus decontamination (see WHO link below) AND remember that any opened bottle of alcohol does not have the initial percent marked on the bottle.
Luckily, our local distilleries are stepping up to produce sanitizer!

Also WHO has noted that any germs in the air, & bottling process can contaminate local processed (not in laboratory clean environment ) & advise quarantining any product for 72 hours before use:
