United to have Flights to Kona
#1
Beginning June 15, United will add three daily flights into Honolulu, four into Maui, two to Kauai and one to Kona on the Big Island.

With the code share agreement w/ Hawaiian, I wonder if you can use Hawaiian Miles for these flights?

That's interesting, since they just cancelled their daily Chicago to Honolulu flight.

It was in the newspaper yesterday that United cancelled its daily Chicago-Honolulu flight. I didn't know about American Airlines doing the same!

I flew United nonstop with my dog last month. I didn't try to use my Hawaiian miles but I'll tell you what the seats were uncomfortable. I'd prefer the layover to being uncomfortable.

That's strange...

...Mike Navares, general manager in Hawaii for Chicago-based United (Nasdaq: UAUA), who announced the additional flights Friday, also said that the carrier has no plans to cut Mainland-Hawaii routes below its normal number this fall....

I just got an e-mail from United, they signed a code sharing agreement with Continental and Continental will join the "Star Alliance" subject to regulatory authorities approval. They expect everything to be done by early 2009. Apparently, the merger of the two airlines is off the table for the time being.

What is with the full planes right now? My nephew has been trying to get back from Charlotte (via PHX to Kona or worst case HNL/OGG/Kauai) and booked solid from last Thursday (6/15) through this weekend. He flies standby - space available - a SA3 to those who know this stuff - and no flights! He finally got to SF this AM from Charlotte only because his dad was flying the plane and it bumped him up to a SA1 priority. We hope to see him here sometime hopefully in the next 2-3 days.

I thought less people were traveling?

I think the planes are all full right now because of the recent reduction in service to Hawaii and the onset of the summer vacation season. The airlines have not yet come close to replacing the capacity lost when Aloha and ATA went under. I went to Texas and back in the past few weeks, and my Continental flights were completely full both ways.

Cheers,
Jerry
