Non-stop flight/Pet direct release in Kona
#1
Thanks to DanielP,I found the least stressful flight ( non-stop) for my dog.

There are a lille bit more money and paperwork involved, but it's totally

worth it,at least for me.

Here's some helpful tips if you decide to fly to Kona and drive to Puna.

1. The Quarantine station is only in Honolulu. So the permit is coming from them.
2.You have to call Kona veterinary service to arrange the vet (currently one scheduled) to meet you at the airport and process the direct release.
3.Only United Airlines participate in the Direct release from Kona.
4.If your flight arrives before 7 pm,the fee is $150,after hours and weekends - $250.
(Note: it's only for Kona service,Direct release fee (Honolulu) is separate ).

5.No service on Friday.

Note: on the website it's Wednesday, but it chaged as of yesterday,08/11/08.

StillHope,

I actually found it cheaper too. The vet in kona was more and the 1-way rental car Kona-Hilo was more, but the interisland flight for me and Ramona and Bear and a handler to move Bear from quarantine to Interisland flight cost way more. Glad to hear that you were able to get it arrainged.

Not sure about the others, but Enterprise has a pet cleaning fee.

funny I think I would pay extra for pet cleaning, god knows th egrooming bill for five dogs can be alot, This thread has been done already, i believe about 4 months ago. And I believe it was Daniel who had said it was easier to go kona rather than hilo, glad to know what days not to fly on, now I have to figure my travel around united, i was hopeing to use Delta since i could get non stop flight. dont know if united has any nonstop flights from the midwest.
thanx for the additional info.stillhope

at least were down to 5 dogs and 1 blue and gold macaw. I had to give up my 6 horses, 6 other dogs, sheep, 3 goats, a potbelly pig, 2 amazon parrots, my peacocks, exotic pheasants, doves, chickens ducks,
Ole McDonalds farm is no more, its amazing the sacrifices. I made sure each and every animal went to a wonderful home,
For whatever reason animals always seem to seek me out...[Wink]

Imagine the sacrifice the dogs you gave up are having to make. They were probably bonded to you. Stop saying yes.
