Many places along the Red Road in lower Puna. There are all kinds of areas where you can just walk out to the coast and every view is a gorgeous and slightly different one. I've gotten some amazing shots that way.

I am not a photographer, not even an amateur one, but I love to take pictures in Volcano Village as well as in the area around the winery.

Another new for me place I went recently was up Mauna Loa Road just outside of the National Park. Drove to the top of the road and got out and hiked a bit up the trail. A very stark kind of beauty with a lot of native plants around. Apparently the view can also be great on a clear day, where you can see to the Pu'u O'o vent, but it was cloudy when I was up there which was actually very nice, with big trees fading into the mist in the distance. A totally different landscape unlike any I'd seen on the island.

I’m an active armature photographer both digital and SLR. Of course my true love is SLR both color and B&W. Sunrise and sunsets are my specialty and I love to blow them up and frame them. But, flowers, bugs and animals are good to.
From what I read finding insects and bugs won’t be a problem. We won’t be out till’ mid April any time after that I would love to get together with everyone and share techniques and locations. I’m up for the club, say meet once a month or something either at our homes or meet on location? Let me know……………………………. Our home is in Hawaiian Beaches Kahunascott
If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

Anthony,
Sounds like you are both an organizer and leader. Looks like you have started a club! Sorry I didn't get to speak to you by phone the other night, hope Ralph answered your questions sufficiently. We were wondering how the deal went, will you be my neighbor? Also on the subject of photography, who is responsible for the beautiful shots we see every time we log on? One day I looked so long at the beautiful sunrise shot I could have sworn the sun moved in the photo! Beautiful and a great way to start the day. pj

Best of luck on that Anthony. Let your heart lead on picking your lot because once it's home that's what you get, at least for awhile. As for the photo. club, I would love to participate. I have helped make seven yearbooks while in school, was head photographer Jr. year and Editor-in-chief my Sr. year. I will probably never be able to afford the equipment I REALLY want so will have to eventually settle for a happy medium. Once we get this house building episode behind us, I'd love to pursue my real passions - photography and golf. Hope it all goes well for you and yours. Aloha nui loa. Pam ...er pj.

I just logged into punaweb at 5:29p.m. and the picture of the pink clouds and ocean was so pretty it made me gasp and say out loud,"Oh, my goodness." Kudos to the shutterbug responsible for that treat!!!pj

I'd be interested in gathering with others around the hobby of photography. I'm due to upgrade by digital camera to include more manual options. I like to focus my photography more on the subject than the techincal side of the camera.
Maybe one method of us getting together is to meet at a scenic spot so we can talk story about cameras or provide an opportunity for others to take more pics in an area they haven't been yet. Email me... |
