Things are not bad here in Baton Rouge. We had a little rain and some storm force winds, but the worst is supposed to be over for us. We actually had electricity for 24 hours until our transformer blew this morning. Now the estimate is Wed. to get to us. At least we have a generator for the refrigerators, COMPUTER, TV and FANS.
Unfortunately, the Galveston and Houston areas are really going to get pounded tonight. So far Ike seems to be staying a Cat 2, so it may not be as bad as it could have been. I am REALLY looking forward to being able to afford to retire early and head to Puna and get away from frequent hurricanes. I will be glad to put all the good info from Punatalk to good use and take part in some of the exchanges of produce, etc. Unless I get really lucky in finding a place to buy, I will probably be offering help in exchange for excess produce. However I will be setting up some bee hives as soon as possible, so I should have honey before I have producing plants. Allen Baton Rouge, LA & HPP

Our friends in San Leon, Tx lost their home. Our house sits at 18 feet elev. about 1.5 miles from Kemah, TX.
We are in Austin and all we know is that our house is still there.

Pua'a,
From everything I have heard, Florida has not done too badly for hurricanes this year. Hope your luck holds. I think Texas and Louisiana have had our share for a while. Since we are now right at the high point for probability of hurricanes with an active season forecast, we all still have a lot of potential for hurricanes yet. We got our electricity back yesterday morning. The guys from the contract crew working in our subdivision had been told by one of the other people affected that the transformer cut out had blown. They were actually out looking for our transformer when I was out by the sidewalk and stopped them to ask. They asked me to take them back to the transformer and after fooling around with the not-user-friendly old style cut out we have, they replaced the wire and fixed it. I am really glad we did not have to wait for Entergy to get to us. The power cut off briefly twice today - probably because they are still hooking people up in our subdivision. I could still hear generators running this afternoon. Thank goodness hurricanes are much less frequent in Hawaii. Allen Baton Rouge, LA & HPP
