Um, if any one happens to see any whales over the next few days could you let them know I will be on Oahu from 10/27 -10/31 then coming over to BI on 10/31 - 11/7. Ask them to spend most of their time around Kapoho & Kehena area Smile Smile

Let's keep this thread going and make reports. Our house is on the ocean just North of Hilo, so sightings would be different than the ones by the Red Road... but we would love to keep in touch about sightings. We arrive October 29. We have a telescope and we are right on the cliffs at Paukaa Point over looking Hilo Bay.

Hi Devany, You're gonna have a primo whale-watching spot there!

Spent the day out at Kaimu & along the Red Road, looking for whales but didn't see any. Nice day though.

While we enjoy the whales, remember to thank big oil for their existence!

Whales were almost extinct especially the humpback, kerosene from the newly discovered oil fields replaced whale oil as a light/heat source! Lahaina was the pacific whaling capital.

This may well have staved off their extinction until such time as people generally became more environmentally conscious, and began to care about the whales well-being. Of course, this benefit to whales by big oil was many years in the past and of little relevance now.
