We are post and piering and will have a plywood floor to finish. I would like to do something different and artistic and may go with this idea: http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/lee92.html

Aloha Nancy,
Very interesting Idea, I've been thinking about it most of the day now I have a few thoughts of concern and wondering how you deal with these issues. Won't it be a problem when you have to brace walls during framing and what about doorway thresholds won't they be kind of steep, easily tripped over, What about all the work and traffic over this floor during building how can you expect not to drop many things that would cause damage.

The Idea is really cool especially from the artistic viewpoint. Reminds me of when we use to use carpet remnants to cover floors with in family and kids rooms, we used to get real artistic with designs and names and such.

If your still in the thinking stage check this product out I'm not sure if you can buy it there on The Island or not but you can also get artistic with it and the finish I can vouch for as I used the clear resin on a cedar chest I built near 40 years ago and it still can't be scratched, looks like the day I finished it. I'm sure it would be a great top coat for your project too.

I've discovered that this web site does not give installation procedures for wood underlayments. I have however been in touch with the manufacturer and they are forwarding either by email or snail mail to my home address. The difference they tell me is the wood underlayment should be 2 layers of 1/2" plywood glued and screwed with jogged seams.
