Are you looking for a General Contractor?
#1
You've heard the stories here on Punaweb, and we've heard several also. Beware of who you choose for your contractor. Do your homework. Interview several contractors. Make sure you feel comfortable with them. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Check them out with the State of Hawaii DCCA (Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs) to make sure they are licensed at http://pahoehoe.ehawaii.gov/pvl I work for a general contractor, and it is sad to see all these people who get taken by these guys who are obviously only looking to make a quick buck. Feel free to e-mail me at emily@jemerk.com if you have any questions or if you're looking for a reputable contractor on the East side of the Big Island. We have lots of references and have been building locally for 30 years. In fact, there is a certain Punaweb "lurker" who is building with us now and has promised to post about us soon! We're currently in the finishing stages of their beautiful HPP Home.

Here is a link to some interior pictures, plus 5 other homes we have built in the past 2 years...... http://www.flickr.com/gp/11598514@N03/4F3F38
Once the house is complete, I'll post more pictures and maybe even a video. Some of our commercial projects recently have been IHOP Restaurant, Jack in the Box Remodel, Ford Remodel. We also do small home repairs - no job is too small or too large. Give us a call at 961-4755 (toll free 1-888-438-6375) or e-mail emily@jemerk.com. License #BC-12964.

Seems like the Link doesn't want to work after the "@" - so you will have to copy and paste into your browser. Anyone know how to make the link complete?

I think the URL will have to be copy and pasted, it seems too long to work for some reason.

Nice looking jobs.

Minor note: to be authentic, battens should be at one foot on center. Old board and batten construction never really used boards wider than 12". Just if you were looking for authenticity, most folks nowadays put them at 16" o.c. which is easier on the contractor, but doesn't look authentic. The battens should also be thin, but that's only for purists.

Hello all! Well, I finally have a website up and running here at J.E. Merk. Check us out at www.jemerk.com. That house that I orignally posted is complete although I did not get a chance to take the final interior pictures yet. I'll get those in 2 weeks or so. You can see the exterior of the house at http://www.jemerk.com/ResidentialNewConstruction.html - its' the first one HPP 2 bed / 2 bath. I'm still adding things to the website.
Mella - sorry I never wrote back in November, yup still in the container - going through a rough patch lately but who isn't? It will all work out in the end. Still have a few chickens left from the original batch, but most of them were lunch for stray dogs.
