Need help identifying
#1
the windows on the roof of this home in Leilani Estates. I have tried pergola, celestory and many others and can't find the correct wording for these windows. The photo is on PWFriends at Yahoo.

Clerestory wouldn't occur to me from that photo. More like: a giant glassed in cupola. That might be because I don't know architecture![Sad]

That's an interesting building, though!

Waynesb, think you're correct about the glassed in ginat cupola! Clestory pronounced clear story windows are mostly in churches, or FLW houses, at least that is all I've been able to find.

Think these would be real custom jobs, as can't find a supplier, or a familiar term to use.

I wanted a MUCH smaller version for overhead airflow. No luck yet finding a source!

mella l - check this house style in HPP - it is not an add-on but built with a complicated truss system.

Mella, We have been thinking of adding something like that when we need to re-roof. The closest thing I could find is a railroad train caboose cupola (the term for the raised windowed area, also called the 'lookout')
There are a lot of add-on cupola dealers if you search 'cupola', but I am sure most builders can do this on a build...

One option in the cuppola is using awning windows. You can order the long pole so you can open and close them when needed or spend the big bucks and order them with a electric motor and remote. Here is link s house with awning windows in the cuppola.http://picasaweb.google.com/BlueWaterPro...8170833890

The type of window to put in a cuppola would also depend on what size the overhang is on the cuppola. Full frame jalousie's might be an option if the overhang is small, it is also an option on clearstory windows.

Clearstory refers to part of an interior wall rising above the adjacent roof with windows admitting light so "clearstory" window is the location, not the type/brand of window.
