Coqui Sanctuary in Puna
#1
I am just wondering what you all think about this.... I think that it makes some sense on the other hand... if they really can procreate in the numbers I have heard, these people are going to have one hell of a problem on their hands in a year or so. [:p]

To each their own!

Personally - I firmly believe in TOTAL enforcement of ALL invasive species laws. It is a crime against the "nature" of Hawaii to introduce any plant, insect, or animal by accident or otherwise without following ALL necessary procedures. Hawaii is not the worlds science experiment.

Anyways the "Coqui" already have their sanctuary - visit the "Walmart" garden shop at dusk!

Time will tell - I'm listening?

Hmmm guess you better get off the island.. Humans are the worst "invasive species" there is..

Hawaii is not Texas.

Well, that is true... (we should all leave the island if we are considered invasive species) but let's be real here. No humans are going to leave this beautiful place, at least those who really love our island. But really, there has to be a way to co-exist and to not introduce invasive species. But what can we do when like the coquis they are here. They are everywhere... I agree about the Walmart Garden Shop... and probably Home Depot too. There needs to be a balance and a way to live with what is here. As much as I agree with you about invasive species, I don't know if we can rid the island of them entirely, especially without poisoning our land or ourselves.

I wonder if the folks at the sanctuary sleep with their windows open? Or if they do, do they curse when the champion coqui chirper takes up residence outside their window in the middle of the night?

Personally, except for when I'm trying to sleep, their sounds don't bug me all that much. I just shut the windows and turn on a fan. As for getting rid of them, it seems that we are usually better at getting rid of things with commercial value such as many species of gamefish, old growth trees, etc. Hmmm, how many coqui legs to a meal?

Now if we could only do something about the mosquitoes.

Cheers,

Sean

These are the kind of people that save their toenail clippings.

The probably even eschew brushing their teeth as to preserve all the natural bacteria.

Coquis eating mosquitos is total B.S. I have just as many mosquitoes as before the frogs arrived, and I live on one of those 10,000+ frogs-per-acre lots.I don't doubt that Singer will be opening a snake refuge when they get here.
