Soil Question

The soil here is very acidic. I was told to add lime to balance the PH. How often do you need to do this? Is this something you should do every three months or once a year?

I've used oyster shells instead of lime. It seems to last longer. don't know for sure though.

Only necessary if planting or tending non-native plants which prefer a more neutral to alkaline ph soil. Use dolomite or ag lime, not hydrated, but still be careful not to breath the dust. It's kinda hard to use too much on established plants.

Thats why I went with the oyster shells cause you don't have to worry about breathing it.

A soil test kit is quite cheap. I'm sure Walmart has them. You will probably pay for it quickly by only using what you need to amend your soil.

Jade, you can also take some of your soil in question to CTAHR ag extensions and they will charge you to test your soil if you don't feel comfortable with testing your own.
