John Dirgo-farmer's market
#1
HI John,
I did plant a Poha berry for you, but no sprouts yet, but I wanted to let you and everyone else know, there is a new farmer's market that started today, where ONLY Hawaii grown plants, vegetables, foods etc.. are offered. It's small, since today was the first day, but I think it's a brilliant idea. A vendor there did have lots of Poha berry plants among other native Hawaii offerings. It's held every Saturday from 7-12 where the old Food Fair shopping center used to be. 1990 Kinoole Street. I hope it will be a success. they even had square dancers there today. SmileAngela

I had heard that was opening, I didn't know today was the first day or I would have gone.

Square dancing sounds, uh, North Carolinan, but not very Hawaiian. Oh, well. Having a Farmer's Market devoted to locally grown plants, vegetables and foods is a great idea. A "farmer's" market where ladies sell stuff in boxes from other countries is not really a farmer's market. So good luck with that. Where is the old Food Fair shopping center? Hilo? Kea'au?

Hi Glen,
You're funny Glen, but that's a valid point. I can't say I've ever seen square dancing in Hawaii before, but I guess it goes along with the country farmer's market theme? It's held in the parking lot,and the address was 1990 Kinoole Street in Hilo. I'm not a part of it or anything, I just read it in the paper, but I love being able to go to a market and not guess where the produce came from. I would imagine they might have a tough time of it competing with the big market in Hilo on Saturday's. They also said they plan on having people with ducks and chickens for sale attending, but they weren't there this time. Aloha, Angela
