Difference in Cinders
#1
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there knew if there is a difference between red cinders and black cinders besides price. Does the color of the cinders affect plants in any way? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

black cinder is light, porous, crumbly, so is used in potting and landscaping, usually mixed with peatmoss or other amendments. Red cinder is denser by volume, harder, packs together tightly, used more for driveways and paths. It is more durable than black. Plants seem to do well in both kinds.

Keith - My neighbor has red cinder, and swears that it tracks into the house more so than the black cinder he had at his last home. He has more experience with it than I do - but it does look like red would be a bit messier.... ?
