Hi folks. I'm finally here in Puna, settling, with boxes and papers piled up all around me - still waiting on those appliances I ordered nearly a month ago... I've already had company, and I've got a gorgeous stone wall going up in the front yard. And as you can see, I am finally back online, albeit with dialup - sigh. A small sacrifice to be FINALLY living the dream!
I do have a question - I tried to look thru the search engine so I didn't need to bring this up again, but I couldn't find it... Someone told me that there was a home brew store of sorts in Hilo town. Can you please tell me again? This time I promise to write it down!
Think I'll take a ride into town and check on those appliances in person. I would be so grateful to do a load of laundry... and I never thought I'd hear myself say that!!!
See ya'll soon!

Supa Dupa PunaCat. I'm so happy you have arrived! We hope to be there in June latest!
As for brewery products I believe it was Royall who posted that info. Good luck on the appliances too. Aloha, Mella L

Welcome Punacat,
Could you be a little more specific re "home brew store of sorts" -- not sure what you're asking.

Aloha PunaCat,
I think the homebrew store is along Hilo Bayfront. Go to the Farmer's market in Hilo and wander along the storefronts for the three blocks facing the bay. I think I saw it in there. If you don't find it right away, try ask the folks in Abundant Life health food store, they seem the sort of folks who would know where the homebrew store is. Or the cooking supply store further down the row of shops, they would probably also know where the brew shop is.
While you are in Hilo town looking for the homebrew store, there is a nice Hawaiian quilt exhibit at the Wailoa center for the next week or so. (Go to the Kamehameha statue along bayfront and the Wailoa center is the smallish blue roofed building to the left side behind the statue. You can walk there from the statue.)
A hui hou,
Cathy

The phonebook has "Brew Hawaii" listed - 935-8857, but no address. You may also want to stop in at the Mehana Brewing Co. 275 E. Kawili for their tasters, and maybe pick up a jug, just to have something while yours is a brewin'!

Thanks folks! We'll be cruising around Hilo today and will definitely be checking to see if we can find the place. I thought whomever told me the first time said it was like a mom and pop type place, with the wife selling balloons and gifts on one side, and the hubby on the other selling the brew stuff.
Lin - my husband Doug makes his own beer and fruit wines. He's here for another week or so, and has orders from his loving wife not to go back east 'fore whipping me up a batch. To do that, we need to find a store that sells things like specialty yeast, malt extract... Ono!!!!
Mahalo too, for the info on the quilt show - I will love seeing that!
I think we just may have to wander over for some of those tasters, too - great idea. We did go to the Irish Pub the other night (Nichols?). Great food, nice atmosphere, wonderful selection of beers on tap - but - I'm thinking maybe the taps weren't clean... I actually got severe cramping that night into the whole next day. I've never had that happen. I'm hoping that it wasn't caused from the pub, as we both really loved it....
Mella - June is almost here!!! I'm so excited for you!!!! If you need anything, give me a shout.
Thanks y'all!

That brew place sounds like Goodies Galore, 88 Kanoelehua 935-9998 (ice cream, balloons, gift baskets, crafts & bulk foods)
just up from Kens, shopping center with Remax. Don't know if they have brewing stuff (oh, did you stop into Mehana? - we love their Porter)
